Weekend in Bentonville Part II

I love a good crêpe! Well, I have a tendency to cape for anything French, and crêpes are no exception. This simple truth led me to Crêpes Paulette nearly as soon as they opened Saturday morning. We were not at all shocked to find that we weren’t the only customers anxious for them to open.

CP originally started as a food truck, became a local favorite, and eventually expanded to the restaurant we visited.

One bite and I completely understood their popularity! The Garden and the Turtle were out of this world good. Also, your visit is not complete without La Lem-Pom!

The vibe was super relaxed and everyone we encountered from the employees to other customers were welcoming. I guess we really looked like tourists, because we ended up getting pulled into conversation with folks at the table next to us!

Don’t be like me. Put your phone down and enjoy!

Next stop, Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. The trip to Bentonville would not have been complete without spending a day here. The museum was founded by Alice Walton and officially opened to the public in 2011. Admission is always free and there is a constant rotation of awesome exhibitions on display.

We spent a large chunk of the day exploring the massive collection. I especially enjoyed the contemporary and pop art, Native American pieces, Border Cantos exhibition, nature path, and the Frank Lloyd Wright house. You must have a ticket to visit the Frank Lloyd Wright house and they go fast! Make sure to pick one up at the welcome desk and don’t miss your ticket time.

I left Cyrstal Bridges feeling peak cultured and also ready for dinner. We made a reservation at MOD but arrived over an hour early for our reservation —blame hunger. Luckily, MOD was in the square and a short walk from Remedy Road. If you aren’t familiar with their socially conscious brand, definitely check them out!

MOD has a special place in my heart. It was hands-down the best food and service I had during my stay in Bentonville —worth every penny!

I knew from checking out the menu before visiting that I was in for quite the dining experience. Honestly, I almost missed out on MOD because the menu was so meat heavy and I didn’t want to be one of those diners who asks for substitutions for EVERYTHING. Luckily, I was pleasantly surprised that our server asked if we had any preferences or dietary restrictions then pointed out what options could be made into vegetarian dishes.

I ended up having the shaved lady apple (no ham), rye biscuits, gem lettuce salad, and crispy mashed potatoes. The shaved lady apple was incredibly crisp and fresh. I now want to take something like it on every picnic, but I’m sure it wouldn’t taste nearly as good. The rye biscuits were tiny, but fluffy and ended up being just enough.

The chile dressing! I can’t say enough about the chile dressing on the gem lettuce salad. They need to bottle and sell that stuff. Oh, and the potatoes were everything.

Also, the kitchen sent out dessert for me. It was some kind of lemon custard/pie situation, which is not something I would normally eat but am so glad I did!

Would you believe after all of that food we still went down to the Foxhole Public House for cocktails? I’m sure it will not come as a shock that we ended up ordering cocktails AND a couple orders of steamed buns. The Korean BBQ shiitake and the spice eggplant were so good that I didn’t mind being stuffed beyond comfort. No regrets!

We got up early enough Sunday to check out the adorable candy shop and ice cream parlor in the Walmart Museum then head back for one last trip to Crepe Paulette.

Let me know if you visit Bentonville and stop at any of the places mentioned! Oh, and don’t forget to follow all of my travels here.

I have to try some of these places next time I visit Northwest AR! I absolutely love Crystal Bridges and I hate I didn’t go more often when I lived in the area. The Walmart Museum is also a gem. I’m glad you had fun!
