One of the most asked questions in my DMs is where to get coffee in Memphis! Interest only grew after I shared this post on Instagram. There are so many incredible options around town to spend some time on the patio and enjoy the milder weather we’ve been having lately. If you’re interested in a curated short list, keep reading to check out a few of my current favorites!
VICE & VIRTUE COFFEE – Downtown/South Main Arts District
Nestled inside of ARRIVE Hotel is the coffee shops of dreams. Seriously, how does a latte with barrel-aged bourbon paired with an in-house baked pastry sound? Stop in for that or more (no judgement) and enjoy a stroll down down South Main.
Overall Favorite: Bourbon Mocha Latte | Seasonal Favorite: Rooibos Arnold Palmer (non-alcoholic)
FRENCH TRUCK – Crosstown Concourse
Get a taste of this Louisiana brand in Memphis and the caffeine fix to match. Their roasts are just the thing I recommend for anyone jonesing for a strong cup of coffee. Grab a cup to enjoy on one of Crosstown’s many outdoor spaces while getting in some good people-watching.
Overall Favorite: New Orleans Iced Coffee | Seasonal Favorite: Almond milk latte with seasonal syrup
COMEBACK COFFEE – Downtown/The Pinch District
Prepare your taste buds! Comeback has the coffee and the breakfast, lunch, or pastries that you need, too. The thoughtfully designed space extends outside and includes a fab two-story patio, which is where you can usually find me devouring the veggie sandwich and a coffee, of course.
Overall Favorite: Southern Style Coffee Soda | Seasonal Favorite: Saigon with oat milk
17BERKSHIRE – Midtown/Overton Square
Paris in Memphis? Yes, please. This lovely patisserie is filled with cases of macarons, tea cakes, and more. You’ll be tempted to have one of each with a coffee. Give in! Have a little more time to savor? Book a spot for their popular afternoon tea.
Overall Favorite: Orange Blossom Latte add Vanilla | Seasonal Favorite: Iced Flavored Ice Teas
THE HUB – East Memphis
It’s possible that you’ve driven past The Hub and didn’t know you were missing out on a great cup of coffee! Located inside of Highpoint Church (not a member—just sharing!) is a strong and not too sweet lavender latte with your name on it. If lavender isn’t your thing then rest easy knowing you can’t go wrong with any of their lattes.
Overall Favorite: Iced Lavender Oat Milk Latte | Seasonal Favorite: Ask for the barista’s favorite!
DR. BEAN’S COFFEE AND TEA EMPORIUM – Downtown/South Main Arts District
Good coffee and good people. One stop at Dr. Bean’s and you’ll likely find yourself appreciating the art of coffee roasting, pouring, and savoring that much more. Enjoy the fullness of their roasts through a cup of black coffee or a pour over—and grab a bag of beans for home, too!
Overall Favorite: Pour Over | Seasonal Favorite: Spiced Sweet Potato Latte
CITY & STATE – Broad Avenue Arts District City & State
Full disclosure, I used to work at City & State on the retail side. I was, however, a years-long customer before applying to join the team. So I can confidently say as a customer-turned employee-turned customer again that the coffee is pretty darn good. Hop over to the retail side while you’re waiting for your drink but don’t blame me when you leave with a thing or two!
Overall Favorite: Lumberjack Latte with Oat Milk | Seasonal Favorite: Mint Chip Matcha
MUGGIN COFFEEHOUSE – Whitehaven
The name says it all! The term ‘muggin’ is all about confidence, showing up as your full self, and ‘puttin’ on’ for the people. That’s exactly the vibe of this black-owned coffee shop, located in the heart of Whitehaven with a focus on culture and community. Make sure to order a Muggin branded shirt and one of their roasts to go with your order.
Overall Favorite: Cortado | Seasonal Favorite: Bourbon Macchiato
