6 San Francisco Sweets and Treats

I must admit that I am more of a savory than sweet person. I will always choose gouda grits over sugary grits with butter and will pick salty popcorn over sweet kettle corn any day.

None of this mattered when I landed in San Francisco. In fact, my first stop after dropping off luggage was to Mr Holmes Bakehouse! I was intrigued by both the lack of a period after mister and this thing called a cruffin that I was told is a bucket list experience.

Let’s get on to the sweets and treats that filled my week-long foodie adventures in San Francisco!

MR HOLMES BAKEHOUSE

I don’t wait in line for much in my city, but let me tell you, home girl happily jumped in line within thirty minutes of landing in San Francisco to get a box of pastries from Mr Holmes. The Instagram vibes were high and the pastries could be smelled nearly a block away.

We hopped in line while watching the cruffin timer and counting down the moment until we could enter the surprisingly small space. The moment the doors opened, a team member walked out to announce that anyone not waiting for a cruffin could skip the long line. Not one person moved. YOU. KNOW. WHY. WE’RE. HERE.

The pressure is on from the moment you walk up to the case. There are so many choices and also so many people behind you willing you to make up your mind and keep it moving. Luckily, I walked away with two cruffins (#winning), a butter croissant, a matcha croissant, and few other goodies to get that coveted branded box. Get into the ridiculousness and fun of all. Get in line. Get ready for a sugar high.

BOBA GUYS

Blogger and friend in my head, Tamryn, is obsessed with Boba Guys. I would watch her IG Stories daily and wonder what magical concoction she’d have them whip up for her that day. I knew in my heart that I would love Boba Guys long before I knew I would be venturing to San Francisco. So much so that I would read reviews of other boba shops and hesitated to visit any place with mediocre reviews. Silly, I know.

Luckily, Boba Guys was so beyond worth the wait. I went nearly every day of the trip! My favorite was the 24oz iced matcha latte with oat milk and boba, 25% sweetness.

CRAFTSMAN & WOLVES

I happened into this shop while looking for a caffeine break during a major shopping session. The decor. The coffee. The ludicrously loud hip-hop blasting across the cafe. The PASTRIES.

You need the chocolate cake donut, honey lavender donut holes, and the rose geranium and raspberry jam poppy seed cake.

SALT & STRAW

Ice cream lovers rejoice! Salt & Straw features the classics, the unexpected (hello, black olive brittle and goat cheese), and a nook of branded goodies to take home and snuggle with to remember your experience.

I arrived around 10PM to find the place absolutely packed, so I knew I was in the right place. Try an ice cream flight to experience the classics and a flavor or two of one of their limited edition flavors.

DANDELION CHOCOLATE

After finding out our dinner reservations meant nothing, our group decided to venture across the street to Dandelion Chocolate to wait for a table. I am now a huge fan of visiting chocolate shops while waiting for dinner. I dined on a slice of French Opera cake next to some hilarious fellow diners at a community style table and reveled in the overwhelming aroma of cocoa beans.

This is the spot for chocolate lovers. The shop carries chocolate from every corner of the word and in nearly every form that you can imagine. Don’t miss out on trying the samples. You will also love the cake—any of the cakes!

MUSEUM OF ICE CREAM

I did not expect to receive so many sweets and treats along the Museum of Ice Cream tour, but I have exactly zero complaints. From paletas to classic ice cream cones and cotton candy to mochi balls, there was always a delicious dessert and completely Instagramable moment just around the corner.

Oddly enough, folks have a lot of feelings about the MOIC. I guy even walked past the line and commented that it was a “the place where Millenials pay $20 to take pictures with ice cream.” Look, don’t kill my vibe with your negativity, sir. Live and let live! If all people want is ice cream and pictures with ice cream to have moments of happiness then let them have it. (I wrote more about doing more of what makes me happy, regardless of what others think here.)

Definitely sign up for MOIC emails to find out when the pop up is coming to a city new you and enjoy being a kid again!

These treats all look so amazing!! I was so hoping to be able to visit San Francisco while we were living here in California and I don’t think we’ll be able to make it up there in time before we move again. I’ll have to keep these in mind for a future vacation!
